Gambling addiction treatment and the gambler brings to mind a certain image for many of us. We might think of a man looking downcast with his hand on his head and a drink in front of him. Some might think of someone spending hours in front of a slot machine. This is only one facet of gambling. There are so many more ways that gambling exists and scams people out of their money. Everyone dreams of being able to win big even though we all acknowledge that “the house always wins.” Many of us don’t know much about treating gambling. Even amongst substance use counselors, most don’t have the information they need about gambling. I wanted to find out about gambling assessment and treatment. So I had the chance to interview a fellow therapist who happens to specialize in gambling addiction. In today’s episode we’ll talk to Katie Kirsch from Connecticut about her experience in treating gambling addiction.
